* note - you should always check your admin@ mailbox regularly as any system messages e.g. 'mailbox full' will be sent to this address.
Using Webmail
DotNetted provide a comprehensive webmail
service via our SmarterMail mail software,
to log into your webmail you need to visit
the following URL :
http://webmail.dotnetted.co.uk
And log in using the username and password
for the e-mail account you wish to view.
Once logged in you'll first see the contents
of the mailbox plus there are a series of
links across the top of the screen from
which you can access the various functions
available.
The features available are extensive and
can't all be covered here but all settings
can be reached via the links at the top
of the webmail page and built into the webmail
interface is an excellent online help system
which details all features and can be opened
via the 'Help' link at the top of the page
and then 'Help topics'.
Folders
Through webmail you are able to create
your own subfolders within your mailbox,
these can be useful for dividing mail into
separate areas, for instance you might have
a folder where you store business e-mail
and another where you store personal e-mail.
Initially there will only be an 'inbox'
folder but the first time you send out a
mail through webmail a 'Sent items' folder
will be created to keep a copy of mails
sent and the first time you delete a message
a 'Deleted items' folder will be created
and the deleted mail copied to this folder.
You can also create your own folders to
organise your mail but be aware that if
you also collect mail using a pop3 client
that the pop3 client will ONLY be able to
retrieve mail from the 'inbox' folder itself
and not from any subfolders that are created.
Mailbox usage
If you use webmail (exclusively or in combination
with pop3) you must keep an eye on the amount
of space used within your mailbox. When
a pop3 client connects it deletes the messages
it collects automatically so the mailbox
is emptied at each connection, however if
you use webmail then messages stored on
the server outside of the inbox will use
mailbox space - including items in the 'deleted
items', 'Sent items' and any folders that
you have created yourself.
To check how much space is currently used in your account
go to your inbox and at the top right you'll see a bar
graph indicating the amount of used and free space.
Deleting mail through Webmail
To delete mail completely through webmail on a default
setup you need to first delete it so that the mail is
moved to 'deleted items' then purge the 'deleted items'
folder before the message is actually removed from your
account. This behaviour can be changed so that when
you delete a file from any of your folders it is deleted
permanently by changing your webmail settings :
Log into your webmail account and from the 'Settings' menu at the top of the screen select
'My Settings'.
On the resulting page you'll see a number of tags covering the mailbox properties, select the 'Webmail' tab and on this page under 'Delete Action' select 'Auto Purge Folder' and then save the changes via the save link at the opt left of that pane. Now
when mail is deleted it will be permanently removed and the deleted items folder will not be used.
Page Refreshes
Whilst using webmail, pages may be cached
by your browser and sometimes when you take
actions within the webmail environment they
may not always show immediately.
If this occurs simply click on the refresh
button on your browser to force it to reload
the updated page from the server.
